Tomcat Management Support

Tomcat is an industry leading servlet engine from the Apache Software Foundation and one its most popular open source projects. Hyperic's engineering team has been working with Tomcat both as end-users and developers for the last 4 years. Hyperic has used this experience to help build a Tomcat management solution currently in use in some of the world's largest production Tomcat deployments.

Because Hyperic HQ is built on Tomcat technology, Hyperic has ensured that HQ provides the most complete Tomcat management capabilities available from any solution on the market. HQ's management for Tomcat provides detailed information about the server as well as every webapp deployed in it. This allows you to gain a level of visibility into the resource consumption of both the server as well as every webapp without requiring instrumentation of your Tomcat or JVM.

Hyperic's SIGAR technology also helps provide you with information on JVM performance which offers measurements of the Tomcat server from the operating system's point of view. With HQ's Tomcat management technology, you can answer questions like "Which of my webapps is consuming the most amount of CPU?" and "How much memory is the Tomcat JVM process actually taking up?". HQ's web based portal allows you to build personalized views of monitoring data which compare things like CPU consumption for your tomcat instance, the response time of every webapp, and the load average of the machine hosting the Tomcat server. HQ also provides real per-request response time monitoring which allows you to look at real performance data for each of your webapps.

HQ's control capability allows you to perform on demand or scheduled control operations on the server, as well as per webapp control actions such as reload, deploy, and undeploy.
